The design shows Liberty with her arm stretched toward the distant horizon. Her other arm is grasping sprays of laurel and oak, renowned symbols of American glory. Beside her is the motto, “In God We Trust.”
The reserve side of this coin celebrates the 1796 Robert Scot American eagle engraving. The heraldic eagle design has been updated by John Mercanti. There are 13 stars on this reverse side that reflect the nation’s original 13 colonies.
