Design and History
Adolph A. Weinman created this design for a 50-cent piece in 1916. This was part of a bigger effort to revamp U.S. currency. The Walking Liberty design shows Lady Liberty striding confidently toward a glorious sunset. An American flag drapes her shoulders as she heads toward a shining future. This inspiring design was destined to make a come back. Walking Liberty appears on the coin's obverse side.
The reverse features a heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
Mint Condition Proofs
These 2002-W Proof American Silver Eagle proofs are deemed in perfect condition by PCGS. Each coin features a mirror background and crisp relief. No blemishes mar its surface.
A deep-cameo product, the 2002-W American Silver Eagle Proof coin has a frosted finish that catches the eye and emphasizes the patriotic emblems and text features on these coins. The mirrored background contrasts with the relief design beautifully, for a stunning effect. Lady Liberty floats on the coin's surface, creating an ethereal effect and adding movement to the design.
