1982-S George Washington Half Dollar - GEM Proof in OGP
Many may remember the 1982 George Washington Silver Dollar as the FIRST modern commemorative coin! Struck to commemorate the 250th birthday of the most revered of the Founding Fathers, this piece features Washington surveying on his steed on the obverse, and Mount Vernon along with an eagle holding arrows and branches on the reverse. This was a turning point in American numismatics!
Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this piece broke the 28 year streak without commemorative pieces. However, not too many were minted and even fewer have lasted through the years and not been melted down. This makes it almost 100x as rare as the 1964 JFK Half Dollar! It was also struck using the same weight, silver content and purity as the JFK, so silver enthusiasts will love to add them to their stack!
