1995-W American Silver Eagle
The 1995-W American Silver Eagle was the first coin in the series struck at the West Point Mint. It had a very small mintage of just over 30,000 coins and commanded a much higher premium than the coins in the series struck at other mints. The 1995-W American Silver Eagle is a key date in the series and one of the most valuable Proof Silver Eagle coins.
History of the 1995-W American Silver Eagle
The 1995-W American Silver Eagle was designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Silver Eagle program. As more West Point Silver Eagles were produced in later years, the cost of the coin has gone downward. The design on the reverse of the American Silver Eagle was inspired by the “Walking Liberty” design of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that was designed by Adolph Weinman. It was one of the most beloved designs of all American coins and was revived for the American Silver Eagle coins. The reverse was designed by John Mercanti. It features the American Bald Eagle behind a shield. The eagle is holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars that represent the 13 original colonies. These West Point coins were the only ones in the series with a mint mark, which was a W on the reverse beneath the eagle.
1995-W American Silver Eagle Value
The 1995-W American Silver Eagle prices can reach upwards of $86,000 for the highest grades available of the coin. The 1995-W American Silver Eagle is a true treasure within the Silver Eagle series and is worth the effort and investment to find.
