The 1992-S Columbus Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof coin with a Deep Cameo finish, minted at the San Francisco Mint to mark the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's historic voyage in 1492. Designed by T. James Ferrell and Thomas D. Rogers, this coin captures the moment of one of history's most significant discoveries. Product Specifications: Designer: T. James Ferrell for the obverse and Thomas D. Rogers for the reverse. Mint: San Francisco Mintage: 390,154 Metal Composition: Clad, with 75% Copper and 25% Nickel over a pure Copper center. Diameter: 30.60 millimeters Weight: 11.34 grams Edge: Reeded Year of Issue: 1992 Proof: DCAM, featuring sharp, frosted devices and a mirror-like field. Obverse Design: Features a depiction of Christopher Columbus as he sets foot on the new lands, a look of wonder on his face. The ocean and one of his ships are visible behind him, with his crew and a small boat to the side. The word "LIBERTY" arches over the scene, with the "S" mint mark (not "D" as stated) denoting the San Francisco Mint below the letter "Y". The years "1492" and "1992" flank Columbus, marking the historic voyage and the year of the coin's minting, respectively, with "In God We Trust" above "1992". Reverse Design: Illustrates the three ships: The Santa Maria, The Niña, and The Pinta, sailing across the ocean. "500th Anniversary of Columbus Discovery" is inscribed above the ships, commemorating the quincentenary. Encircling the central imagery is a ring bearing the inscriptions "United States of America" and "Half Dollar".
