1989-S American Silver Eagle Proof
The 1989 Silver Eagle is a very collectible coin as it’s an early silver eagle. These coins were minted from 1986 and are still being struck in the present day. Early coins are highly sought after by dealers and collectors, as well as silver investors.

American silver eagle proof history
In 1989 617,694 proof coins were minted at the San Francisco mint. This number was slightly lower than in some other years, making the coin highly sought after. The coin bears the mintmark ‘S’ on the reverse underneath the eagle’s foot. Proof coins were struck from .999 fine silver at the San Francisco facility from 1986 to 1992.
Each year Silver Eagle coins are issued by the mint, especially for coin collectors. These coins were only available to be purchased directly from the Mint, during the year that the coin was being struck. The number of proof coins struck each year depends on the demand from collectors.
The silver eagle coin features the design from the Walking Liberty coin created in 1916 by Adolph Weinman, who moved to America from German when he was ten years old. It was perhaps ironic that America went to war with Germany not long after the coin was minted. The walking liberty coin design remains one of America's more visually stunning coins and, due to its popularity, has been used on the silver eagle coin.
The coins revere was designed in 1985 by the American mint's chief engraver and features an eagle, shield, and banner with the Latin inscription "E Pluribus Unum." It also has a triangle formed of thirteen stars, one for each of America's founding states.
