1929-D Mercury Dime
The 1929-D Mercury Dime had a total mintage of just over 5 million coins struck at the Denver Mint. While this is a smaller mintage, especially compared to the coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it’s possible to find this Mercury Head Dime all the way up to Mint State 68 in Full Band and regular versions. This is possibly due to the smaller mintage and collectors saving these coins when they were released, allowing for more options in higher Mint State grades.
History of the 1929-D Mercury Dime
The 1929-D Mercury Dime might be possible to find in the highest grades, but it will require some effort to seek out a well-struck coin with a nice luster. It will also cost a premium for those higher grades, although still lower prices than some of the other coins in the series. The Mercury Dime was designed by Adolph Alexander Weinman who also designed the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The obverse of the coin features a younger version of Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap that is believed to symbolize “liberty of thought.” And the reverse of the coin displays a fasces wrapped in bands, an olive branch, and an ax. This coin features the ‘D’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin.
1929-D Mercury Dime Value
The 1929-D Mercury Dime value ranges between around $9,000 to upwards of $30,000 for the highest Mint State grades of the coin recorded and sold in the past. This is a special and valuable coin worth finding in any grade. The 1929-D Mercury Dime would make an excellent addition to any Mercury Dime series collection.
