The 1926-S Peace Dollar had a mintage of 6,980,000 coins, which is about three times the mintage of the 1926-D Peace Dollar. Although not the rarest in the series, the 1926-S Peace Dollar is towards the lower end of the mintage spectrum. A really nice brilliant uncirculated specimen can often run you north of $80-$90, while a higher end gem mint state coin can run thousands. The 1926-S Peace Dollar is a nice alternative to the 1926-D Peace Dollar because it can currently be purchased for about half the price.

The stunning design of the Peace Dollar features a stunning goddess of liberty on the obverse. Above lady liberty is the word "liberty". The reverse of the coin features a fierce looking bald eagle. The eagle is standing perched on a rock and holds a olive branch in its talons. When originally commissioning the design of the Peace Dollar, the United States Commission for Fine Arts mandated that the silver dollar symbolize peace as the world war had just ended. With that in mind, designer Anthony D. Francisci won the contest held by the Commission for Fine Arts and ultimately chose his design.

Each Peace Dollar has .7734 ounces of pure silver in each coin. The coin has a diameter of 38.1m, a weight of 26.73 grams, and is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. Like most silver dollars, including the Morgan Silver Dollar, the Peace Silver Dollar has a reeded edge. What is interesting about the Peace Dollar is that its design did not often vary throughout the series. The only major variation in the series was in 1921. The 1921 Peace Dollar featured a high relief verse the rest of the series that was a standard relief.
