The 1924-S Peace Dollar might be one of the most stunning silver dollars ever produced. Its original design came from Italian immigrant Anthony D. Francisci. Anthony was chosen over 7 other competitors in a design competition held by the United States Commission for Fine Arts. The commission held this competition to find a artist who could produce a silver dollar that would resemble peace after a brutal world war. With this in mind, Anthony's design consisted of a goddess of liberty on the obverse of the coin and a fierce looking bald eagle on the reverse of the coin. On the reverse, the bald eagle can be seen grasping a olive branch, symbolizing a further sign of peace.

The 1924-S Peace Dollar is one of the rarer dates in the series. A total mintage of only 1,728,000 coins were ever produced, thus making it one of the lowest mintages of the entire series. A stunning brilliant uncirculated specimen can run you north of $400, and a really high end mint state coin can run you tens of thousands of dollars. Collectors in general buy the 1924-S Peace Dollar strictly for the scarcity of the piece rather than the silver content since its numismatic value is worth much more than its melt value.

Each Peace Dollar ever minted has the same specifications. The Peace Dollar has a diameter of 38.1mm a weight of 26.73 grams, has a reeded edge, and is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. In total the Peace Dollar has .7734 ounces of pure silver. Collectors however who are looking to buy the 1924-S Peace Dollar don't typically buy them in rolls, they buy them individually for their complete sets. A better alternative for collectors looking for stunning bulk Peace Dollars are brilliant uncirculated rolls.
