1916-S Barber Dime
The 1916-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 5.8 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This was the last issue of the Barber Dime from the San Francisco Mint, making this an even more popular coin among collectors. It features the sought after ‘S’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. While it was popular as the last year of production, it is also relatively common in most uncirculated and Mint State grades as it had a larger production than other Barber Dimes from the San Francisco Mint.
History of the 1916-S Barber Dime
The 1916-S Barber Dime is a coin that is worth cherrypicking for a well-struck example with nice overall eye appeal. Some of these Barber Dimes might have great surfaces, but splotchy toning, so choose carefully. Charles Barber designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1916-S Barber Dime Value
The 1916-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $7,000 for some of the highest grades of the coin available. Considering this is the last coin in the series and is a popular ‘S’ mint marked coin, this is a great value. It’s possible to build a more affordable Barber Dime collection by seeking out circulated and lower Mint State grade coins. The 1916-S Barber Dime would make a valuable addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
