1915-S Barber Dime
The 1915-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just 960,000 from the San Francisco Mint. This was a smaller mintage compared to many in the series, but it wasn’t the smallest. This coin features the ‘S’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. The 1915-S Barber Dime was the penultimate Barber Dime struck at the San Francisco Mint, with just one more year of this coin in production. Even though this coin had a smaller mintage, it was still relatively easy to find in circulated and Mint State condition, with the majority landing somewhere between MS62 and MS65. It’s possible to find the 1915-S Barber Dime in MS67 where it is considered a true rarity.
History of the 1915-S Barber Dime
The 1915-S Barber Dime holds a unique piece of history and is valuable based on it being second to last in the series struck at the San Francisco Mint and collectors favoring it due to a lower mintage. Charles Barber designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1915-S Barber Dime Value
The 1915-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $11,000 for some of the highest grades available of the coin, but it is possible to find this coin in more affordable prices in circulated and lower Mint State grades. The 1915-S Barber Dime is a special coin that would make an excellent addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
