1911-S Barber Dime
The 1911-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 3.5 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This coin features the popular ‘S’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin, and the 1911-S Barber Dime is a semi-scarce date with the lowest mintage out of the coins issued in this year. It’s possible to find this coin in circulated grades for a small premium, and also plenty of examples available in Mint State up to about MS66. Grades above that are possible to find, but quite rare. They typically command higher prices yet are still relatively affordable compared to some of the other coins in the series.
History of the 1911-S Barber Dime
The 1911-S Barber Dime is an accessible coin within the Barber Dime series, and is worth the effort to cherrypick for a coin with a sharp strike. On some of the coins, detailing can be soft, especially on the lower right reverse of the coin and on the hair above Lady Liberty’s forehead. Charles Barber designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1911-S Barber Dime Value
The 1911-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of around $9,000 for some of the highest grades available for the coin. Although this is a small premium, it is more affordable than others in the series of the same quality, making this a coin that would add value to a collection. The 1911-S Barber Dime is a beautiful coin that would make an excellent addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
