The early 20th century in America is remembered by the Great Depression, Prohibition, the rise of Hollywood, and the era of mobsters. Las Vegas was only just blossoming into Sin City - a gambling haven run by organized crime. One famous American gangster named Bugsy Siegel was one of the most influential people in developing the Las Vegas we know today. We have assembled a duo of Silver Half Dollars to remember his dramatic legacy - a 1906 Barber Half Dollar and a 1947 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Bugsy Siegel was a notorious American gangster instrumental in transforming Las Vegas into a major gambling destination. He was deeply involved in organized crime, including bootlegging and gambling operations, and helped establish the infamous Murder, Inc. Siegel’s life ended abruptly in 1947 when he was murdered, allegedly due to financial issues and mismanagement of the Flamingo Hotel project.
The Barber Half Dollar, created by Charles E. Barber, was produced from 1892 to 1915. It replaced the Seated Liberty design and showcased Liberty on the front. This coin was part of a series that included the Barber dime and quarter, and it was later succeeded by the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The 1906 Barber Half Dollar had a mintage of just 2,638,000 coins. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, was produced between 1916 and 1947. It depictsLiberty striding towards the sunrise on its front, and this classic design was later adopted for the American Silver Eagle bullion coin. This last year of issue Walking Liberty Half Dollar had a mintage of only 4,094,000. Both half dollars included in this set will be in circulated condition. With one silver half dollar from the year of his birth and one from the year of his death, this Mobster Collection is a unique twist on coin history that is perfect for any coin collection!
