1903 V Nickel

1903 V Nickel

The 1903 V Nickel had a total mintage of over 28 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This was another high mintage coin that had plenty to go around within almost every grade up to about Mint State 67. It is possible to find the 1903 Liberty Head Nickel with a full strike, with some careful searching, and it also requires careful searching, as many coins in the series show weak points in the stars and the ears of corn, although this doesn’t seem to be much of a drawback for collectors.

History of the 1903 Liberty Head Nickel

The 1903 Liberty Head Nickel comes in a variety of lusters ranging from a chrome-like brilliance to frosty. This is a beautiful coin that can be found at different price points depending on what the collector seeks. Circulated coins are more affordable while the higher grades drive the prices up. The designer of the Barber coins, Charles E. Barber also designed the V Nickel. It gets its nickname from the Roman numeral V found on the reverse of the coin that is surrounded by a wreath. The obverse of all of his coins feature the head of Lady Liberty. In the V Nickel, she wears a crown that says LIBERTY and is surrounded by 13 stars.

1903 V Nickel Value

The 1903 V Nickel value reaches upwards of just under $26,000 for the highest grades of the coin. Building a V Nickel collection doesn’t have to cost a fortune unless that is what you seek. Circulated and lower Mint State collections make this an accessible, yet still beautiful series for any collector. The 1903 Liberty Head V Nickel would make a great addition to any Liberty Head collection.
