1900 V Nickel
The 1900 V Nickel had a total mintage of over 27.2 million coins struck which was around 1.2 million more coins than the previous years. The 1900 and 1899 V Nickel coins had massive mintages compared to the earlier years. Due to this large mintage, the 1900 Liberty Head Nickel is plentiful and relatively common. It can be found in circulated and most Mint State grades all the way up to MS67.
History of the 1900 Liberty Head V Nickel
It is worth the effort to find a well struck 1900 V Nickel coin. It was common for there to be weak spots in the coins in this series, particularly on the stars on the obverse and ear of corn on the reverse, yet still easy enough to find fully struck coins. Charles E. Barber designed this Liberty Head coin that is dubbed the V Nickel due to the Roman numeral V found on the center of the reverse of the coin and surrounded by a wreath. Lady Liberty’s head can be found on the obverse as was the design for Barber’s coins.
1900 V Nickel Value
The 1900 V Nickel value reaches upwards of around $18,000 for the highest grades of this coin. Although this is a premium, it is much less than the premiums commanded by some of the earlier years which hit upwards of $75,000. The 1900 Liberty Head “V” Nickel would make an asset to any V Nickel series collection and should be relatively easy to find in any grade desired.
