1892 Barber Dime
The 1892 Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 12.1 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This was the first coin in the Barber Dime series which makes it a unique coin within the collection. Due to this being the first in the series of the new type designed by Charles Barber, this coin is something of a novelty and was, therefore, saved by collectors.
History of the 1892 Barber Dime
The 1892 Barber Dime is relatively easy to find in most Mint State grades. Although the highest grades will command a premium, they aren’t impossible to find. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1892 Barber Dime Value
The 1892 Barber Dime value can reach as high as $5,800 for some of the highest grades of the coin available on the market. This coin can be found at lower prices if purchased in circulated grades, and is well worth the effort to find well-struck and with attractive surfaces and toning. The 1892 Barber Dime would make a valuable addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
