From 1878 to 1904, Morgan Silver Dollars were minted and once again in 1921. Many collectors consider the Morgan Silver Dollar to be one of the most beautifully designed coins in all of American history. Due to a shortage of silver, Morgan Silver Dollars were no longer produced between 1904 and 1921, but after WWI, the Pittman Act of 1918 was passed which allowed the US government to melt older coins and use the material to continue the series one last time in 1921. In celebration of our victory in World War I the Peace Silver Dollar was also produced in 1921 alongside the Morgan Dollar.

George T. Morgan was the designer of the esteemed Morgan Silver Dollar. First an assistant engraver in the U.S. Mint, he soon became the Chief Engraver. An image of an American Bald Eagle is featured on the reverse side of the coin, with 7 detailed tail feathers, it is holding arrows with one talon and an olive branch with the other talon. Lady Liberty’s face is featured on the obverse side of the Morgan Silver Dollar, with 13 stars surrounding her gorgeous face, and each star represents one of the original 13 US colonies. Unknown to many, the model for Lady Liberty was a school teacher named Anna Williams.
