Did you know that the U.S. used to have three cent coins? This obsolete denomination was created in two different forms: the three-cent nickel, and three-cent dime a.k.a. the "trime". Both of these coins were short-lived, and the denomination quickly faded into obsolescence. The three-cent nickel (1865-1889) was created to combat coin shortages during the Civil War, and both the nickel and the trime (1851-1873) were most commonly used to purchase postage, as a stamp was just 3 cents at the time.

The three-cent nickel was struck with copper and nickel, whereas the three-cent silver trime was made with 75% silver! Both coins were discontinued for their cost and unpopularity, and many were melted down. By the 1900s, these coins were mere relics of the past! We assembled this duo of the only three-cent coins ever struck in the U.S. to create the perfect time capsule of a forgotten period in American numismatic history. Both of these coins will be in circulated condition with the dates randomly selected. Secure this duo of Three Cent Silver and Three Cent Nickel coins for your collection today!
