This AD 375-392 Bronze Roman signifies the short reign of Valentinian II, another piece of the puzzle of the impending downfall of the Western Roman Empire. Son of Valentinian I, Valentinian II became Emperor at just four years of age, yet he never could enjoy true power. His mother Justina was de facto ruler in Rome, but most of the west was controlled by the usurper Magnus Maximus. Even once he was old enough to rule, he was strangled to death by Frankish insurgents at only 21 years old. However, he was able to adopt Christianity as the true faith before his death, further spreading it throughout the empire. Each piece is certified authentic by NGC Ancients, and has a special Coins of the Romans label! Add a piece of this lesser-known reign to your collection today!
