The Perth Mint made history when it released the Wedge Tailed Eagle in 2014. It was the first legal tender world coin to be designed by a former U.S. Mint Engraver! John Mercanti, 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint and designer of the Silver Eagle, was responsible for designing the Wedge Tailed Eagle. Just 50,000 of these coins were released by the Perth Mint in Australia and think of just how few made it to the United States and were certified in perfect grade MS70!
The obverse of the silver coin features a baby eagle being taken care of by its mother as its father is soaring into the nest. The reverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Each coin consists of 1 oz of 99.99% pure silver making it one of the most pure silver coins ever released. NGC has awarded these coins the grade of MS70, for its flawless surfaces even under 5x magnification.
