American Silver Eagle Coins have become one of the most sought after rare coins on the market today. This Proof American Silver Eagle is certified in perfect grade by world-recognized NGC. This coin is a must-have for any coin collection, as it is both rare and affordable!

American Silver Eagle history

In 2012, 869,386 proof American Silver Eagle coins at the West Point Mint. The coins were struck using 90% silver and 10% copper and were in high demand by collectors and silver investors. Demand was so high that the San Francisco facility also minted 224,981 reverse proof coins and several thousand regular proofs. These became the first proof coins with an ‘S’ mint mark since 1992. The West Point coins have a ‘W’ underneath the eagle’s foot on the coins reverse to indicate where they were minted.

Silver eagle design

The silver eagle coins were designed to symbolize everything that America holds dear. The images incorporate olive branches to represent peace and freedom. These can be seen on the coins reverse in the eagle's talons, and on the obverse, Liberty is carrying an olive branch. Thirteen stars form a triangle above the eagle's head to represent America's founding states.

On the obverse of the coin, Liberty is walking towards a brighter future, which is represented with a sunrise. This symbolizes America's independence. Adolph Weinman designed the coin's obverse in1916 and used between 1916 and 1947 on the half-dollar coin. The reverse was designed by sculpture and engraver, John Mercanti, in 1985.
