American silver eagles history

The American silver eagle has been minted since 1986 and continues to be struck to this day. In 2011 there continued to be an increased amount of interest in the silver eagle proof coins. The prices of precious metals were rising due to investors buying gold and silver rather than having their money in shares. The world economy was unstable, and this increased demand for the coin.

In 2011 over forty million silver eagle coins were struck. 2011 was also a very popular year as it was the coin's 25th anniversary, which still makes it a popular collector coin today. There were 950,000 proof coins minted at the West Point mint in 2011. A twenty-fifth anniversary set was also created for collectors.

The coin's obverse uses the Walking Liberty design created for the half dollar circulated between 1916 and 1947. The reverse has an eagle and shield, as well as thirteen stars that represent America's founding states.

Silver Eagle Prices
