American Silver Eagle Coins History and Description

Like other American Eagle Coins, this one is named for its heraldic eagle design. On its obverse side, however, is one of the most easily recognized designs in U.S. coin history. It features the celebrated Walking Liberty Half Dollar design that was created by German-American engraver and sculptor Adolphe A. Weinman. It first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty coin. The mint approved the design for the American Eagle series. It shows Lady Liberty walking with her outstretched arm toward the horizon. In her other arm, she is carrying branches of oak and laurel.
The American eagle on the reverse side of this 2007-W American Silver Eagle Proof has been updated by sculptor John Mercanti. Buyers will note the presence of 13 stars, symbolic of the original 13 colonies, above the eagle.
