Silver Eagle Coins history
In 2006 the Silver Eagle Program was celebrating its 20th anniversary. The US Mint decided to create a new version of the coin aimed at coin collectors. The new coin was the burnished Silver Eagle, which was minted using a blank that’s first sandblasted to create a burnished finish. The coins are painstakingly made and are stunning with a satin finish.
Silver eagles are very special coins; on their obverse is the Walking Liberty coin, which was designed by Adolph Weinman in 1916. This design was used on America's half-dollar coin until 1947. It was much loved by collectors and the general public alike as it symbolizes freedom and independence.
The coin's reverse has a modern heraldic eagle, which was designed in 1985 by the US Mints Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
