2002-W American Silver Eagle Proof

Grab one of these rare and highly sort after collectible coins. These coins have been graded as PF70 UCAM by the world-renowned NGC and they will make an excellent addition to any serious coin collection. The silver eagle is currently the most popular silver coin in the world and proofs of these coins are always in high demand.

History of the American Silver Eagle Proof

The silver eagle proof is specifically designed as a collector piece even though it is legal tender with a face value of $1. Since 1986, the American silver eagle and American gold eagle have been the official bullion of the United States. The obverse of the coin features the iconic Walking Liberty which is seen as a symbol of American freedom and pride. The 2002 American silver eagle proof was minted in the West Point Mint and each coin has the "W" mint mark.

Design of the American Silver Eagle Proof

Each coin weighs one Troy ounce and is struck from 0.999% silver. These substantial coins have a reeded edge, a diameter of 40.6mm, and a thickness of 2.98mm. The reverse of the coin features a modern redesign of the Heraldic Eagle. The new design by John Mercanti has 13 stars above the eagle to symbolize the 13 original colonies of the United States. The eagle holds a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of the coin and she is depicted striding across a sunrise landscape with a US flag draped across her shoulders.

2002 Silver Eagle Value & Mintage

Only 647,342 silver eagle proofs were minted in 2002 and of these, just under 4,000 coins have been assigned the PF70 UCAM grade by NGC to date. This makes these particular coins very rare and highly collectible. At an auction, these coins have brought $150 but their scarcity could continue to increase over time and thus become more expensive.
