The 1987-S American Silver Eagle Proof coin is a rare collectors specimen that Bullion Shark is pleased to offer in stunning proof condition. This 1987 Silver Eagle coin is certified as perfect grade by the globally recognized Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). As a perfect grade rare coin, this American Silver Eagle is the best way to enhance your collection.

Each 1987 Silver Eagle coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint and contains one ounce of 0.999 troy silver. The Silver Eagle coins offered by Bullion Shark are both rare and affordable.

Coin History and Design

American Silver Eagle coins were first struck in 1986, so this 1987-S coin is an early variety, and therefore a great collector's item. Between 1986 and 1992, Silver Eagle coins were produced in the San Francisco Mint, but production moved to the Philidelphia Mint in 1993. The location of American Silver Eagle coin production changed again in 2001, and the West Point Mint became the new minting facility for the American Silver Eagle.

Aside from a brief cease in production between 2008 and 2010, Silver Eagle coins have been consistently struck at the West Point Mint since 2001 and are still produced in that location. However, since 2010 mintages each year have been on a steady decline on average.

Adolph A. Weinman designed the obverse side of the 1987-S American Silver Eagle in 1916. This design included the walking Lady Liberty and a depiction of the sun on the horizon.

The reverse side of the 1987 Silver Eagle was created by the sculptor John Mercanti. The reverse side features thirteen stars surrounding a heraldic eagle and a shield. The thirteen stars represent each of the founding states of the United States.

1987 Silver Eagle Value

American Silver Eagle coins struck in 1987 have a legal tender value of $1. However, their intrinsic value is often over $500, particularly for proof, perfect grade coins. 1987-S American Silver Eagle coins have a total mintage of 904,732, and very few have been graded by NGC PF70 UCAM.
