1945-S Wheat Penny

1945-S Wheat Penny

The 1945-S Wheat Penny had a total mintage of over 181 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. Although this coin had a higher mintage, it can be more difficult to find in some of the highest Mint State grades. Historically, higher mintages typically had more coins available in circulated and mid-range uncirculated grades due to many of the coins being released into circulation, with less being saved by collectors who preferred to save lower mintage sets.

History of the 1945-S Wheat Penny

The 1945-S Wheat Penny is an attractive coin that would make a great addition to the Lincoln Cent series collection. Cherrypicking is advised to ensure a sharp strike and appealing surfaces. The Wheat Penny was designed by Victor David Brenner. At the time, President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to prepare new coin designs that had more artistic merit. He chose Brenner based on a plaque he created with Lincoln’s profile. The Wheat Penny depicts a bust and profile of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, with the S mint mark under the date. The reverse features two stalks of durum wheat.

1945-S Wheat Penny Worth

The 1945-S Wheat Penny value ranges from around seven hundred dollars to upwards of two thousand dollars for the highest grade coins available on the market. The Wheat Penny coin colors range from brown to brown-red to full red varieties, with the full reds commanding a higher price than the other colors under most circumstances. The Wheat Penny series is an accessible one for novice and experienced collectors alike, with a little bit of something for every price range.
