History and Description

The 1945-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin features a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. It has a reeded edge, weight of 12.50g, and a diameter of 30.00mm. Sculptor and engraver Adolphe A. Weinman created the Walking Liberty design. The coin’s obverse side features Lady Liberty in full view striding toward the sunlit horizon. Her long hair and gown are blowing in the breeze and she holds branches of oak and laurel, which are symbolic of the nation’s military and civic glories. The word ‘Liberty’ appears above her. The coin’s year of minting appears below her figure.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a bold bald eagle with outstretched wings. It sits atop a mountain perch where a pine sapling also appears. “United States of America” appears above the eagle while the coin’s value, ‘half dollar,’ appears below it.

Walking Liberty Half Dollar Value

The 1945-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin is sought after for its collectability. Its value exceeds its half-dollar face value in terms of both silver and value to rare coin collectors. Earliest Walking Liberty Half Dollar coins tend to be most prized because they are more difficult to find than later years; however, each year remains sought after by collectors, particularly those in brilliant uncirculated condition.
