The 1934-S Peace dollar has remained elusive in the series. The 1934-S Peace silver dollar is one of the rarest varieties to find in mint state grades and considered to be a key date in the Peace dollar series

Many of the 1934-S Peace dollars can be found with a good quality strike. Some coins can be found with a light strike on the reverse and a wary collector should be on the lookout for counterfeits that may have had the ‘S’ Peace dollar mint mark attached to add value.

History of the 1934-S Peace Dollar

Much like its Denver and Philadelphia counterparts, the 1934-S went mainly unnoticed throughout its history. Early investors throughout the 1940s tended to pay most of their attention to earlier dated coins in the series. There was no rush to buy up any mint state coins as it was thought there would be an abundance of bags released from the treasuries in years to come.
