1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter

1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter

The 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter had a total mintage of just over 2.6 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. The 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter had a higher mintage than the previous year, that featured the second lowest mintage of the entire series, and it’s possible to find this coin in some of the highest grade Mint State coins available. This is an attractive coin that can be found in both circulated and uncirculated grades.

History of the 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter

The 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter is worth the effort to find sharply struck and with nice details and luster. Cherrypicking is possible with this one, as well as finding Mint State and Full Head versions of the coin. The Standing Liberty Quarter was designed by Herman MacNeil. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other while wearing chain mail armor on her body. She stands in some form of gateway that features 13 stars and the words “In God We Trust” dividing the walls. The reverse of the coin features an American Bald Eagle in flight with 13 stars surrounding it.

1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter Value

The 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter value ranges from around $7,000 to upwards of $30,000 for some of the highest Mint State and Full Head version grades available. This is relatively affordable compared to some of the others in the series of the same grades. The Standing Liberty Quarter series is a popular one among collectors due to the lower mintages, the attractive designs, and the controversial history of the designs with the “naked” Lady Liberty in the first two years. The 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter would make a great addition to any Standing Liberty Quarter series collection.
