1928 Mercury Dime

1928 Mercury Dime

The 1928 Mercury Dime had a total mintage of over 19 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This coin was possible to find in both circulated and uncirculated Mint State grades up to about Mint State 67 and Mint State 68 in the Full Band versions. The Philadelphia minted Mercury Dimes typically had higher mintages than the other mints of the coin, and are usually more affordable because of it. The 1928 Mercury Dime is on the more expensive side for the highest grades of this coin compared to some of the others that were struck at the Philadelphia Mint, although more affordable than those struck at Denver and San Francisco.

History of the 1928 Mercury Dime

The 1928 Mercury Dime is a beautiful coin that is worth the effort to find with a sharp strike, nice luster and details. The Philadelphia Mint was known for its excellent craftsmanship and this coin reaped the benefits of that skill. The obverse of the Mercury Dime features a younger Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap. The reverse features a fasces wrapped in bands, with an olive branch and ax around it. The coin, along with the Walking Liberty Half dollar, was designed by Adolph A. Weinman.

1928 Mercury Dime Value

The 1928 Mercury Dime value ranges between about $5,500 and $19,000 for the highest grades of the coin in Mint State and Full Band. It’s possible to build this collection by seeking out coins in circulated grades, and finding ones that offer value for their worth. The 1928 Mercury Dime has great overall eye appeal and would make an excellent addition to any Mercury Dime series collection.
