The 1922-S Peace Dollar was the first ever San Fransisco minted Peace Dollar in the series. Originally designed by Anthony Francisci, the obverse of the coin featured lady liberty with a crown, the reverse of the coin featured a standing eagle. On the obverse, above lady liberty featured the word liberty. This amazing design was inspired by the end of the world war and as a result of a competition held by the United States Commission for Fine Arts. The Peace Dollar was the last dollar made with 90% silver and made for circulation.

Specifically, each Peace Dollar is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. To be exact, .7734 ounces of silver can be found in each coin. The Peace Dollar is a fan favorite for those looking to collect dollar coins that are silver. Collectors often buy Peace Dollars in rolls, albums, or as individual coins. The individual coins are often found certified by PCGS or NGC. Collectors can often spend tens of thousands of dollars when putting together a high end certified set.

While the 1922-S Peace Dollar was not the most rare coin minted throughout the series, it is much more rare than the 1922 Peace Dollar or 1923 Peace Dollar. The 1922-S Peace Dollar had a mintage of 17,475,000 coins in total. While a brilliant uncirculated specimen can currently be found for around $75-$80 dollars, the Peace Dollar value continues to increase as the quality becomes better. Therefore, it is not surprising to find some of the higher mint state specimens going for thousands of dollars.
