1922 Peace Dollar
The 1922 Peace Dollar is the most common in the Peace Dollar series. More than 51 million silver dollars were struck at Philadelphia Mint that year, creating an all-time record for a United States silver dollar struck at a single mint. This marked the beginning of Peace Dollars piling up in Mint vaults and other Treasury locations.
History of the 1922 Peace Dollar
1922 Peace Dollars were coined in lower relief than its 1921 predecessors after high relief minting was discontinued, but the strike quality is generally good even with the lower and flatter relief details. Finding a 1922 Peace silver dollar in Gem condition is extremely rare because of the quantity of these coins in circulation, and how often they were stored and moved inside bags with other 1922s.
Mint-sealed bags of Mint condition 1922 Silver dollars were common and must have been distributed over a longer period of time. This resulted in the coin never really being rare, except in higher grades, and it also resulted in the majority of them being bagmarked due to being moved around in storage so many times.
1922 Peace Dollar Value
1922 Peace Dollars are very common. 1922, 1923, 1924, and 1925 Peace dollars issued from Philadelphia Mint are the most common peace silver dollars and would be a great starter collection for coin enthusiasts. The 1922 Peace dollar value is worth more in higher grades due to it being more scarce than the others.
