1921 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

The 1921 Walking Liberty Half Dollar has the second lowest mintage of all coins in the series. Only fewer 1921-D coins were ever issued. Adolph Weinman designed this coin and the dime as well He earned the commission by winning a competition held by the Commission of Fine Arts. This was not the initial design for the coin and other designs were rejected before this design was finally approved.  The luster ranges from satiny white to golden tones. As with all the coins in this series coming from Philadelphia, strike is not a problem. Mint condition coins exhibit exquisite detailing in Liberty’s skirt and the eagle’s feathers.

1921 Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Value and Scarcity

The 1921 Walking Liberty half dollar value is not easily found in circulated grades and this rarity is reflected in the value of the coin. The 1921 Walking Liberty Half Dollar can range from $135 in lower circulated grade to upwards of $6,000 in higher uncirculated grades. A mint condition 1921 Walking Liberty silver half dollar is a very rare coin indeed. There are probably only 40 to 60 coins in existence. It is not as rare as the 1919-D or 1921-S, but that doesn’t mean it is an easy coin to find.

The rarity of this coin in good condition makes this year a key date for the coin series.
