1908-S Barber Dime

1908 S Barber Dime

The 1908-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 3.2 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. Out of the four Barber Dimes issued in this year, the 1908-S Barber Dime has the third largest mintage, and it is relatively easy to find in many Mint State grades. This coin becomes scarce in MS66 and then becomes extremely rare in MS67, although not impossible to find in this higher grade. The 1908-S Barber Dime features the popular ‘S’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin.

History of the 1908-S Barber Dime

The 1908-S Barber Dime is a beautiful coin that typically has a very good to strong strike quality. Cherrypicking is advised to find a coin that has great eye appeal and is well-struck. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.

1908-S Barber Dime Value

The 1908-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $15,000 for some of the highest grades available of the coin. It’s possible to build a more affordable collection by seeking out circulated and lower Mint State grade coins. The 1908-S Barber Dime is a valuable coin that would make a great addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
