1906 D Barber Dime
The 1906-D Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 4 million coins struck at the Denver Mint. This was the first time that the Barber Dime was produced at the Denver Mint and featured the ‘D’ mint mark found on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. The 1906-D Barber Dime is a semi-scarce date that can be difficult to find in some of the highest grades.
History of the 1906-D Barber Dime
The 1906-D Barber Dime is difficult to find in the highest grades and will command a premium. Many other coins came online at the Denver Mint in the same year, but the Barber Dime had the highest mintage, possibly because they were easiest to produce as they’re the smallest. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1906-D Barber Dime Value
The 1906-D Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $28,000 for mid-range Mint State grades of the coin. It’s possible to build a more affordable series with circulated and lower Mint State examples. This is the first year of the Denver Mint producing the Barber Dime, making the 1906-D Barber Dime a valuable addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
