1895-S Barber Dime
The 1895-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 1.1 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This was a higher mintage than both of the coins issued of the same year at the Philadelphia and New Orleans Mint. It can be difficult to find this coin in the highest Mint State grades, and will command a premium for those higher grades. While this is a larger mintage than the other 1895 Barber Dimes, it’s still a smaller mintage than some of the other dates in the series.
History of the 1895-S Barber Dime
The 1895-S Barber Dime is worth cherrypicking to find a coin that is well-struck with attractive surfaces and toning. This coin features the popular ‘S’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1895-S Barber Dime Value
The 1895-S Barber Dime value ranges to upwards of $15,000 for mid-range Mint State coins, and if found in any higher grades, would command a much higher premium. The Barber Dimes struck in 1895 were less than some in previous years. The 1895-S Barber Dime is a valuable coin that would make a great addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
