1892-P Barber Quarter (G–VG) — First Year of Issue!
Historic First-Year Barber Quarter — Struck 131 Years Ago!
Imagine the year 1892—grocers still weighed produce on brass scales, and barbershops charged a few cents for a shave. In that same year, the Barber Quarter debuted, struck at the Philadelphia Mint as part of a brand-new coinage design that would endure for over two decades.
• Mint: Philadelphia (no mint mark)
• Designer: Charles E. Barber
• Metal Content: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
• Diameter: 24.3 mm (actual size)
• Condition: Good to Very Good (G–VG)
Designed by Charles E. Barber, the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver, this classic silver quarter features Miss Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap and laurel wreath on the obverse, surrounded by 13 stars symbolizing the original Colonies. The reverse proudly displays the heraldic eagle, representing strength and unity.
Each coin offered here comes from the very first year of issue—1892—and is preserved in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition. Though gently worn from over a century of circulation, its details remain clear, and its historical character unmistakable.
Just think—these coins once jingled in the pockets of Americans at the dawn of the Industrial Age, possibly used to buy a hearty meal or a newspaper touting the marvels of electric light!
