Rarely do ancient coins have a provenance like this one! This Hemidrachm of Tabaristan comes from the Caliphate Collection! Commanding the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, the kingdom of Tabaristan was situated along the Great Silk Road. The 7,000 mile-long trade route linked Constantinople with the heart of China. This route was used to transport luxury goods from the East including silk, gems, spices, porcelains, and art, which were in great demand in the West.
This silver Hemidrachm dates from around 780 to 793 A.D. NGC has certified this coin's authenticity, and that it is from the Caliphate Collection.
