2006 $50 Gold Buffalo Coin

The 2006 $50 Gold Buffalo coin was the first 24-karat pure gold coin ever struck by a U.S. Mint. These were a beloved design, especially for a $50 denomination coin. The American Gold Buffalo is also the first bullion coin that didn’t feature an American Bald Eagle on it. This coin can typically be found with a beautiful, satiny appearance. History of the 2006 $50 Gold Buffalo Coin

The 2006 1 oz Gold Buffalo coin can be found in perfect Mint State 70 condition. This coin was produced at the Philadelphia Mint and had a total mintage of just over 300,000 coins struck which is a relatively small mintage. It’s the first in the series adding to its uniqueness and desirability. The Gold Buffalo was designed by James Earle Fraser. The obverse features a very detailed motif of an Indian Chief. The reverse of the coin depicts a large bison, or what is often referred to as a buffalo, and it is standing on top of a mound similar to the 1913 type one Buffalo Nickels.
