History and Description
This stunningly brilliant 1999-P American Silver Eagle Proof coin has a composition of 99.9% pure silver. It has a diameter of 40.6mm and a weight of 31.101g. American Silver Eagle coins are legal tender in the U.S. and have a face value of one dollar.
Adolphe A. Weinman created this Walking Liberty design that appears on this 1999-P American Silver Eagle Proof coin. He created it for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin, which remains one of the most recognizable and highly sought after U.S. coins. The U.S. Mint chose to feature it on the obverse side of this coin owing to its popularity and outstanding design quality. The coin shows Liberty with her arm outstretched toward the sunlit horizon. Her hair and majestic gown are blowing in the wind. In her other arm, she cradles branches of laurel and oak--American symbols of glory.
The coin’s reverse side features the heraldic bald eagle that has been updated with a bolder look by sculptor John Mercanti. This eagle, of course, gives its name to this iconic coin and collectors’ series.
