American Eagle Coins are named for their eagle design, but they popularly feature the classic Walking Liberty half dollar coin design on their obverse side. German-American engraver and sculptor Adolphe Weinman designed Walking Liberty for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The design remains among the most recognizable coin designs in the world.
On this coin’s obverse side, Lady Liberty is striding with her arm outstretched to the horizon. In her other arm, she is carrying oak and laurel branches, which are symbols of American glory. Collectors prize this coin for Liberty’s distinctive artistry--her hair and gown, for example, can be seen blowing in the breeze, adding a dimension of animation to this coin that is seldom seen in coin designs.
The reverse side of this coin features the traditional heraldic American eagle design. Sculptor John Mercanti updated the design for this coin’s engraving. Above the eagle are 13 stars that reflect the nation’s original 13 colonies.
Silver Eagle Pricing
