1986-W $50 American Gold Eagle

1986-W $50 American Gold Eagle

The 1986-W $50 American Gold Eagle coin was a proof struck at the West Point Mint with a total mintage of only 446,290. Unlike the Philadelphia regular strike American Gold Eagle, the Proof coins featured the mint mark where they were produced. The 1986-W $50 American Silver Eagle features the ‘W’ mint mark on the obverse of the coin. It is worthwhile to find one of these 1 oz American Gold Eagle coins with a solid strike and attractive surfaces. It can be difficult to find in the highest grades, although not impossible.
