During the first few years of the Eisenhower Dollar series, the US Mint produced a limited number struck with 40% silver! The 1974 Eisenhower Dollar marks the final year of release for these iconic coins. The Proof Finish versions, affectionately known as "Brown Ikes," stand out from the regular issues, which are referred to as "Blue Ikes" due to their distinctive blue envelope packaging. The "Brown Ike" Proof Dollars earned their nickname from the faux wood-patterned government packaging that housed them, adding an extra touch of elegance and uniqueness to these already special coins.
This 1974-S Proof Silver Eisenhower Dollar has a near-perfect PR69 DCAM grade from PCGS, and is holdered with a special President Eisenhower 40th Anniversary label. These coins had a low mintage of just 1,306,579 coins, and are very scarce in perfect PR70 DCAM. In perfect grade, they go for $650! The PCGS Price Guide values the PR69 DCAM at $38, and to continue our end-of-year vault clearance we are offering them even lower at just $29.95!
