In 1971, the first circulating dollar coin since the Peace Dollar retired in 1935 was released - the Eisenhower Dollar. A relatively short-lived design, The United States Mint also produced a limited number of them with 40% Silver content from 1971-1974 for collecting purposes. These uncirculated issues are colloquially known as "Blue Ikes" due to their blue envelope packaging, compared to the Proof finish "Brown Ike" Eisenhower Dollars which are named after their faux wood patterned outer packaging.
