The United States Mint actually did not produce any annual U.S. Mint or Proof Sets during the years 1965, 1966, and 1967! Instead, the United States Mint introduced the Special Mint Set, made specifically for coin collectors! These came along because in 1964 the US Mint shifted the production of Proof Sets from the Philadelphia Mint to the San Francisco Mint so no regular issue Mint or Proof sets were released during that timeframe. To make up for it, they produced the first ever Satin Finish Sets! Each set contained one Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar from that year of issue and in their original government Special Mint Set packaging. These Washington Quarters are from each year's Special Mint Set, and have an MS67 grade from NGC. This set is worth 3x the price just one grade higher, and are nearly impossible to find in MS69 due to the way the original SMS coins were packaged.
