History of the 1962-D Washington Quarter

The 1962-D Washington Quarter is scarcer in higher uncirculated grades most likely due to the high mintage. Many collectors didn’t save rolls of higher mintage coins compared to lower mintages, so many of these went out into circulation. Cherrypicking is advised as these Denver minted coins are notorious for having marks and abrasions. The Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan to commemorate the 200th anniversary of first president George Washington’s birthday. The obverse of the coin showcases the profile of George Washington. The reverse depicts the American Bald Eagle with wings spread, clutching a bundle of arrows over an olive branch. The ‘D’ mint mark is just below the center of the branch.
