1942 Washington Quarter

1942 Washington Quarter

The 1942 Washington Quarter had a massive mintage of over 102 million from the Philadelphia Mint. This was the first Washington Quarter to have over a million coins minted. These high numbers might have been the cause for investors and collectors to ignore this coin believing it to be too common. Because of this lack of interest, this coin is often considered a “sleeper” coin in higher grades and Gem condition.

History of the 1942 Washington Quarter

Although the 1942 Washington Quarter is considered more of a sleeper coin, it is scarcer to find in uncirculated grades in rolls and harder to find in Gem condition compared to the other Washington Quarters of this time period. The 1942 silver Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan to represent the bicentennial of George Washington’s birthday. The coin features the portrait of George Washington on the obverse and the American Bald Eagle clutching a bundle of arrows hovering over an olive branch on the reverse. When you do find an uncirculated, Mint State 1942 Washington Quarter, they are typically lustrous and an overall attractive coin.

1942 Washington Quarter Value

The 1942 Washington Quarter value ranges to upwards of five thousand dollars. This coin isn’t as highly sought after but can prove to be elusive and scarcer than other coins in the series of the same condition. It is a valuable coin to add to a Washington Quarter collection because it is an appealing and lustrous coin that would add beauty to the series collection.
