Peace Dollar History
After having won a competition in the U.S. for Fine Arts, Italian immigrant Anthony D. Francisci designed the Peace Dollar. The Peace Dollar began production in 1921, the same year the Morgan Silver Dollar series had been minted for the last time. The series originally began as a celebration for our victory in World War 1. The obverse of his Peace Dollar design has an image of lady liberty with a crown that has rays beaming off of it. The reverse of his Peace Dollar design has an image of a powerful eagle. Excluding the first year of issue 1921 coins, the other coins in the series are low relief, including the 1935-P Peace Dollar. The 1935-P Peace Dollar has a mintage of 1,576,000. Every single Peace Dollar has a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. Each coin in the series contains .7734 ounces of pure silver in it.
