1934 Washington Quarter

1934 Washington Quarter

The 1934 Washington Quarter had a much larger mintage than the coins produced previously in 1932 with just under 32 million total mintage from the Philadelphia Mint. This coin is fairly easy to find and has three different types of strikes, light, medium, and heavy on the motto of “In God We Trust.” The lighter mottos have been called “ghostlike” and are very difficult to read due to the light strike. The lighter mottos are scarcer than the more standard medium versions.

History of the 1934 Washington Quarter

The 1934 Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan. The coin was created to commemorate the birthday anniversary of the United States First President, George Washington. The obverse of the coin has a portrait of George Washington, and the reverse depicts an American Bald Eagle with wings spread wide and standing on arrows and olive branches. The 1934 Silver Washington Quarter had a large mintage and is relatively easy to find in circulated and uncirculated grades.

1934 Washington Quarter Value

The 1934 Washington Quarter value ranges to upwards of $15,000. This coin is a more accessible and affordable coin within the Washington Quarter series and would make a great addition to any collection. When looking for a 1934 Washington Quarter, look for a sharper strike, unless you are aiming to find the more scarce light motto strike of some of these versions. The 1934 Washington Quarter is an easy way to continue building your Washington Quarter collection as you seek out more elusive pieces.
